Thrane & Thrane, a major manufacturer of BGAN terminals published a case study of VideoMoverPlus™ technology working with Thrane's vehicular tracking antenna at a KANSAS TV station. For more information, please see the web content published on http://www.thrane.com here
Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER™ and VideoMoverPlus™Plus™ software technology played a key role in KAKE-TV's ability to deliver high-quality broadcasting from Greensburg tornado.
“Being first on the scene, and enabling the cameras to roll and broadcast immediately is vital.”
At about 9pm on the 4th May 2007, a tornado touched down and literally tore apart the small town of Greensburg in Kansas, changing the lives of the 1700 inhabitants for good. The number one priority for KAKE, a major Kansas TV news channel, is live breaking news and in an area of the United States widely known as ‘Tornado Alley', live weather reporting is just as critical. Therefore, KAKE ensures that it has the technology to help it break the news first. A technology, which also makes the FirstCam team highly mobile and ready to go at a moments notice. Once on the scene they are able to provide live, broadcast quality footage of the events as they unfold using Inmarsat GAN and BGAN terminals from Thrane & Thrane. FirstCam relies on an arsenal of technology but the investment has helped make KAKE-TV a well-respected live news source, which translates directly into more viewers and increased advertising revenue.

Missoula Smokejumpers testing ChaserView and OODAKIT from middle of Marble Mountain Forest.
On August 30, 2009 Billy Phillips a Smokejumper working with Google Earth Application Group, using ChaserView software bundled with the OODALINK kit - reported a complete success using the software and the kit in the middle of Marble Mountain Wilderness in Northern California. ChaserView software was loaded in a hand held device and using Inmarsat BGAN network as the transport network. He was able to make a video call from the middle of wilderness using BGAN network to our offices in Oklahoma City and test the ChaserView. ChaserView's bandwidth manager was set to 56k for both users while Billy's BGAN unit powered by Solar from OODAKIT was set to background IP. He reported using about 20k / sec and ended up at about 2Mb total usage of data about 1.2 Mb / min. We noticed a 1-2 seconds delay with smooth connection for both ends.
The Missoula Smokejumper Base is located at the Aerial Fire Depot by Missoula International Airport, Missoula Montana. The base is situated at the west end of the airport along with the Region One Fire Cache, the Interagency Fire Science laboratory, and the Northern Region Training Center. Currently 85 smokejumpers, consisting of men and women from many walks of life, work at the base. Ranging in age from early 20's to 50's, these are all dedicated and professional individuals who are highly-trained and experienced firefighters. A smokejumper's primary job is to suppress wildfires in remote mountainous terrain of the western United States. To do this we are self-sufficient, capable of initial attack in remote mountainous terrain, wilderness areas, rangeland and the desert southwest. Utilizing a fleet of fixed wing aircraft, including a Turbine DC-3, Twin Otter, and a Shorts Sherpa, firefighters and paracargo operations can reach anywhere in the country. Typical jump-country includes most of the western United States from Alaska to New Mexico and from California to Wyoming. Jumpers also provide personnel for extended attack and Incident Command Systems (ICS) fire teams.
About OODALINK: Text from www.oodalink.com -copyright, oodalink
Observe. Orient. Decide. Act. That's what OODA stands for. It's a term coined by Colonel John Boyd, one of the most admired and victorious U.S. Air Force fighter pilots in history. He used the term "OODA Loop" to refer to the continuous cycle of observing information on his instrument panel and beyond, orienting himself to his enemy, deciding what to do next, and acting on those decisions. For Boyd, defeating the enemy stemmed not simply from cycling through that loop, but how quickly he could. Accessing critical data and applying it faster to his decisions baffled his enemies and led to swift and sure victory. Whether your adversary is Mother Nature or the business down the block, with OODAlink you can access the information you need most
— exactly when you need it
— so you can prevail.

January 2009 - VideoMoverPlus™ custom software new features:
Aeronautical Aero-SB Light - BGAN terminal from Thrane & Thrane
BGAN Partner conference sponspored by Thrane & Thrane:
Compact and lightweight SwiftBroadband terminal and antenna, showcased at the New Orleans BGAN partner's event
iPixCel - BGANX Communications exhibited software technology demonstrations and proof of concept at Thrane & Thrane BGAN conference in New Orleans and demonstrated new software design and support for Thrane's Aeronautical SB-LITE terminal. SB-LITE is a compact and lightweight version of SwiftBroadband terminals marketed by Thrane & Thrane . VideoMoverPlus™ -Aero-LITE software version 5.1 was showcased at the booth while transmitting video stream over inmarsat BGAN network at 128k uplink. A fully working Aeronautical SB-LITE system was installed at the booth with the antenna mounted on the top of the hotel's roof.
VideoMoverPlus™ streaming software scored with 4.1 second delay from end to end while sustaining 15 frames per second and streaming video over BGAN network and Thrane's terminal. Note that the receive station was attached to a public Internet access provided by the hotel. A 3 seconds delay (latency) is achievable if using a QoS line.
Another spectacular demonstration unveiled new prototype software, ChaserView™ - designed for 2 way video conferencing from inside a flying airplane back TO another flying airplane OR back to a ground station. This new exciting technological marvel - in software format - was tested successfully over BGAN network attached to Thrane's Aero-SB-LITE, achieving a sustained frame rate of 15 - duplexed and 2 way - while exhibiting a less than 1 second latency for video and audio conferencing. We demonstrated the video conferencing session using a Fujitsu UMPA attached to Aero-SB-LITE and a desktop attached to public internet - Cable Modem - in Oklahoma City.
Members of government agencies, private sectors, third party hardware developers, and BGAN dealers attended the demonstration sessions conducted by Mansour Ansari, Chief Technology Officer in cooperation with Thrane & Thrane's R&D and technical staff team at the booth. Mr Eric Dahl and Scott Hall of Thrane also managed the third party invitations of interested agencies for deployment of this cutting edge technology within the aeronautical industry.
