Introduction and history:

Top

Collaborating with Worcester Polytechnic Institute Computer Science Department, Boston University Biomedical Laboratory and Microsoft Research Labs, we have developed a practical wireless ultrasound transmission system capable of working directly with Terason T3000 ultrasound probes and transmit the output over wireless to a receive PC where it can be used for diagnostics from remote. In addition to Ultrasound Video Image loop, the iPresence system is capable of transmitting real time output from a TotalExam Camera (manufactured and distributed) by Global Media. Click here to learn more about iPresence.

Here is a very brief list of features in each program included in the January 2012 installation of iPresence:

iPresence-U-Live

The Left Image shows iPresence-U-Live when program is first loaded.

The Right Image show iPresence-U-Live viewing a pre-recorded Video File. You can also be connected to iPresence-U when streaming Live Ultrasound Video from a Remote Location when using a Land Line on both ends of the connection.

Optionally, You could use the Windows Media Player. Version 11 and above preferred!

However iPresence-U-Live records the connection history so you can easily reconnect to a Remote PC assuming that they are using the Same IP Address when you last connected to their iPresence-U Program's Video Stream.

iPresence-U

Using this program you can:

1. Control the Terason Ultrasound program from within iPresence-U's Interface with many options available such as changing the Ultrasound Doppler Mode, Ultrasound Scan Depth, Ultrasound Orientation, and much much more.

2. Setup a Patient Folder then create Ultrasound Videos and Ultrasound Pictures to the Patient Folder. This feature is compatible with the Terason Ultrasound Program's Patient database.

Stream Live Ultrasound Video from the Ultrasound Video View Window using Land Line or Broadband Internet Connection. This feature uses the Microsoft Media Encoder 9 engine to Stream the Live Video. At the other end (Receive PC) of the connection, the iPresence-U-Live Program can connect to the Live Video Stream. For example, iPresence-U-Live can use an IP address similar to the picture shown below to connect to the Live Ultrasound Video Stream:

Using the iPresence software, the ultrasound streaming method (2 LIVE streaming methods and 1 store and forward) - for broadband or Land Line Streaming. The software is using the Media Encoder in "Pull" mode by default. Media Encoder Engine offers rich set of streaming features. This means at the "Receive PC", only One connection may be connected to the "Remote PC". However, if you need to allow multiple connections to view the Live Video Stream - at the same time - then you will need to use the "Push" method, which sends the Video Stream to a "Publishing Point".

If you need to use the "Push" mode, we recommend using a modern Desktop PC (as the Receive Station) loaded with Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2008 R2 Server software. Then both sides must be configured so that the Remote (Sending) PC Streams the Video using a Publishing Point that matches with the Receive PC's Publishing Point Configuration. Then each PC that needs to View the Video Stream then connects to the Receive PC using an IP Address which points to the Video Stream on the Receive PC. We can supply a suitable template if needed at no additional charge. Please contact us for a suitable Video Template and instructions on how to successfully setup a "Push" mode configuration for allowing multiple PC's to view the Live Video Stream. Examples will be avilable for Windows 2008 Server Edition R2 and Microsoft Azure integration, CLOUD delivery, etc. We provide consulting services for any IT integration if needed.

3. Import Videos from a Patient Folder then stream them using ChaserView's custom codec.

CV-Graph

CV-GRAPH is a companion software to iPresence and iPresence/ChaserView. It is written in BASIC and requires the .NET framework and its Service packs installed, which are included in the installation program. It has a built-in FTP (File Transfer Program) which transport store and forward images and video clips. It can also be used to UPDATE the iPresence software folder with new updated programs. We suggest to close other programs such as iPresence.exe, Chaserview.exe BEFORE you start the UPDATE process.

In addition to transport and update, it displays - in real time - all the interactions of audio, video, codecs, bandwidth displayed in graph format. CV-Graph is an excellent tool to show realistic states of bandwidth availability, frame rates and video sizes of both end of connection. iT can be used to quantitatively analys the wirless properties. It can also equally be useful if landline connections are used.

This program performs the following tasks:

1. Real time display of Video Bandwidth, Video Frames Per Second Rate, and Audio Bandwidth for Local (Your PC) the Remote PC (on the other side of the connection) in a Graphical Format similar how to Windows Task Manager shows CPU Usage History on its' Performance Tab.

2. Allows configuration of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and configuration of Picture Watermarking of Images.

3. In the background uploads Pictures and Videos to your FTP / Web Site. If Picture Watermarking is desired, then "Watermarks" the pictures before uploading them. After each Picture or Video has been sent to your FTP / Web Site, You will see a Thumbnail of the most recently uploaded items during the current session.

4. Software Update check allows you to get the latest software updates (bug fixes and enhancements) and apply them to your computer when updates are available.

ChaserView

This Program's code name is "iPresence-U / ChaserView". (Ultrasound Version)

It is designed to stream from captured video files via Import. The video files are used: (1) from the Sample Videos Folder; OR (2) from an individual Patient's Folder; OR (3) allows you to select an individual AVI Video File.

*** Note *** This feature is not available in the Standard Version of the ChaserView Receive software.

For Example: Using the File menu, then select Options... then from the "Video" Tab then from the "Live Video Input Source" list then select "Video From File" then from the "Video from File Filename" select one of the files listed there then press the "Apply Changes" button to start streaming the selected Video File. At this time, We only support streaming of AVI files from the "Samples" directory OR created with the iPresence Program. We restrict the Video Size to only certain sizes when using this feature.

After consulting with Terason technical support, they suggest to use the combination of T3000 hardware with Windows 7 using the following method:

1. Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box then press the "Enter" key.

2. Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane.

3. Right Mouse click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..."

4. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

5. Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer..." and check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.

6. Choose the option: "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)" and click "Next" to update the driver.

You must enter the UNLOCK CODE to be able to use the Terason software and hardware. Please contact your T3000 hardware supplier for registration key.

Once you finish installation of T3000 or compatible device, then you must install the Terason software included with the T3000 hardware.

We tested with Terason T3000 Ultrasound Software "Version 4.6.2 (RELEASE-Build 2145)".

iPresence makes calls to the Terason T3000 Ultrasound Program via Terason Windows SDK with was developed and supplied by Terason.

During the installation of iPresence there is a DLL that is properly registered that allows us take Ultrasound Video "Frames" supplied by Terason T3000 Ultrasound Program from the Terason T3000 Hardware and then stuff the Video Frames into our Video Window which then allows us to stream the Ultrasound Images in Real Time. This feature is ONLY allowed in "iPresence-U / ChaserView" Version of ChaserView.

To the Standard ChaserView Version on the Receive PC, the Ultrasound Video looks as if it is coming in from a Video Source and is properly rendered.

If both ends of connection are required to use the Ultrasound machines and exchange ultrasound video in real time, then both PCs on each end must install the REMOTE version. Both PCs then are required to install the T3000 hardware and software.

Now you may proceed to connect to a receive or SEND (remote PC). Make sure both ends are using the same ports. Default ports installed with the software are: 8100, 8110, and 8120.

If this is the case, then you simply need to make sure that you have an internet connection with the proper ports opened (default ports are 8100, 8110, and 8120) for 2 way internet traffic then you are ready to connect to a remote PC. (Inbound or Outbound Call.)

About iPresence-U

Top

iPresence-U interface was designed for allowing real time interaction with the Terason Ultrasound Program in background, while allowing the Terason Ultrasound Program to be hidden from view.

When the Ultrasound Program is running, then the Video Feed from the Terason Ultrasound device is shown in the upper left of this program in the "Video" Window.

Using iPresence, you are then able to interact with the device (using attached probe), stream the Ultrasound Video in Real Time via Land Line or Broadband connection to say a hospital or Emergency Clinic, etc.

In addition to Streaming Live Ultrasound Video from the probe, iPresence-U can capture Ultrasound Video and Ultrasound Images as well as interact with a patient database. Recorded AVI Ultrasound Videos and Ultrasound Images can then be uploaded to a web page for viewing by the medical practitioner. (CV-GRAPH.EXE uploads the images and video clip to a preconfigured web page). You can record Patient Ultrasound Videos then stream them via "iPresence-U / ChaserView" program wirelessly. User can also CAPTURE video clips with longer durations, STORE and then STREAM using ChaserView.

Basic setup and quick tutorial: (Patient setup)

How to setup Patient? Use the above area of iPresence.

How to configure and work with the basic controls? use the above area of the iPresence to interact with the controls.

iPresence controls for Video capture and streaming from File. The above controls allow streaming of video using 2 different methods. You may use the WIRED VIDEO STREAM (640x480) if using a lan line connection. If using WI-FI, 3G, 4G or other wireless networks, we suggest using the WIRELESS VIDEO STREAM Control. A copy ChaserView will be loaded and ready for connection. All AVI files (Video clips of ultrasound) will be ready to stream over wireless. If you need to stream live interaction of the attached probe, then you must use the ChaserView.exe. We suggest to close iPresence.exe, then load ChaserView.exe. Use the WIDE mode and START the ULTRASOUND, then CONNECT to the other IP. A special BIT MAP program interacts with the probe and can stream ultrasound LIVE from the probe. Usually the latency is about 1-2 seconds.

Use may connect to another IP:

Once the initial audio and video connection is established, then the remote user may switch the video feed from CAMERA to ULTRASOUND PROBE. Currently duration of live video stream (using ChaserView.exe) is limited up to 20 minutes. Unlimited connections allowed as long as the process is not longer than limit imposed at the currecnt state of software revision.

User may also change the FRAME RATE of ultrasound Sound stream in real time. Currently 2-15 frames per second is allowed. We will offer more options as soon as more testing is done.

iPresence Ultrasound Screen with Ultrasound Video and Ultrasound Image playback.

From iPresence-U, you can use the Patient Detail to setup a new Patient. Once the new patient is setup, then for the selected Patient you can: (1) stream captured (pre-recorded) Ultrasound Videos; or (2) capture Ultrasound Videos; or (3) capture Ultrasound Images.

Each Patient's records will be created under "C:\ChaserView-Terason\Patient\" directory then the "Patients' name".

For Example: Patient First Name of "Bill" with Last Name of "New" would have their patient data stored under the:

   "C:\ChaserView-Terason\Patient\New_Bill\" Directory.
